Online card payment security (SCA)
What is Strong Customer Authentication (SCA)?
SCA is an extra security check that is applied each time you access your Online Banking Services, initiate an online payment or carry out other actions, such as creating or amending a trusted beneficiary in online banking. SCA helps protect you against online fraud.
Enhancements to Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) are being implemented by all UK banks as a regulatory requirement to improve security for online card payments. This means that you will need to authenticate online card payments more frequently than you currently do.
Authenticating an online card payment
There are three ways of authenticating an online card payment:
-
SMS One-Time Passcode (OTP) sent directly to your mobile phone – just enter the OTP when prompted to complete the authentication. More information and FAQs on OTPs can be found here.
If you have recently changed your mobile phone number, please contact our Card Services Team on +44 (0)20 7012 2900 to ensure your details are up to date.
-
Arbuthnot Latham Card App – Available in both IOS and Android version, the app allows you to verify your card transaction either with a PIN or other means of identification dependent on your device. See How to download the app and Card App FAQs for more information.
-
Digipass – A handheld device accessed by a PIN that generates a One-Time Passcode that you enter when prompted to complete the authentication. More information and FAQs about using a Digipass can be found here.
If you are interested in having a Digipass, please call our Card Services Team on +44 (0)20 7012 2900.
