Interview -
Meet the team - Chris Wiltshire
In our latest Meet the Team, we speak with Chris Wiltshire, newly appointed head of our North West office.
What is your area of expertise?
I have worked across a variety of banking areas throughout my career but since 2012 I have concentrated on working with entrepreneurs and business owners.
I have always been interested in how businesses are conceived, and I think the best entrepreneurs concentrate on their strengths and know when to bring in expertise to assist with weaker areas.
That is why a good private banking partner is so important to a successful entrepreneur, because they can provide the advice and services that are a crucial component in building a business, and more importantly, a quality of life.
What challenges are clients facing at the moment?
The North West has a long entrepreneurial heritage which continues today with many successful businesses attracting the attention of national and international trade buyers and private equity.
As a result, we often see family businesses who need our support in establishing a plan for their finances - be that income, passing on wealth, or protecting it.
We have a range of high-quality money management options ranging from cash deposits to longer term investment strategies designed to help preserve the real value of cash.
We can also support clients with mortgages where their circumstances might not easily transfer into the formulas required by more mainstream lenders.
What sets Arbuthnot Latham apart in the market?
Having worked at some of the larger private banks, I was drawn to the human scale of Arbuthnot Latham.
I have found it has the technical ability and breadth of service of the larger banks but that, thanks to its size and ownership structure, it is able to maintain focus on serving its clients first and foremost.
We are a full-service bank, all under one roof, but we mix that breadth of expertise with a personal touch; a personalised service that helps our clients go further.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I have three young children, so they keep me busy, and I love going outdoors with them.
I read a lot - mostly the Gruffalo and Stickman with the children – but I am also enjoying Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch at the moment.
One day, I hope to have time to start running and cycling again, although for now, I will make do with the Tour de France on TV.
