Meet a Real Estate expert: Angela Niering-Wren

What is your banking specialism?

My specialism is commercial real estate lending - developing and nurturing relationships with real estate investors with the aim of becoming a strategic funding partner.
 

How can you help clients in the current real estate climate?

Real estate is an ever-changing world and there are always fresh challenges coming up the ramp. Of course, Covid had a huge impact on the sector and the consequences are continuing to be felt, with some landlords still not having received missed rent payments or having agreed soft terms. The office and retail sectors have seen a dramatic shift, with lockdown acting as an accelerant to market changes reinforcing the need within these sectors for owners to adapt their product offering to match the demands of the “new” normal. On the residential side, the ending of the stamp duty scheme in the short term, the much-discussed changes to the current Energy Performance Certificates legislation, and the ongoing repercussions of the Grenfell tragedy are having an impact. The British Business Bank Recovery Loan Scheme is providing welcome support and Arbuthnot Latham is working with clients in these sectors to help try to drive the UK economic recovery.
 

Why did you decide to work at Arbuthnot Latham?

I am all about the customer and I thrive in an environment where I am the interface between the bank and the client, working hard to meet the needs of the customer. I saw, in Arbuthnot, an environment where the customer is front and centre of all that we do, and that, together with the great people in the Real Estate team made it a compelling proposition.
 

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love spending time with the family and walking our two standard poodles. Through lockdown we did a lot of decorating and I tiled and plumbed in two en-suites. I bake cakes and I love reading and swimming. Although I haven’t been recently, I enjoy both beach and ski holidays.
